Job Title: Community Gardener

Hours: 21 hours per week

Reporting to: Service coordinator

Annual Leave: 25 days per annum (pro rata)

Purpose of the job

Reporting to the Service Coordinator. This role will be to carry out gardening duties for clients in the London Borough of Ealing.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

â?¢ Prepare the garden â?? mulch borders, weeding

â?¢ Lawn mowing and edging, Spring and Autumn care

â?¢ Strimming

â?¢ Trim hedges

â?¢ Prune shrubs

â?¢ Weed and tidy flower beds, paths and driveways

â?¢ Planting bulbs and shrubs

â?¢ Autumn tidy up of leaves

â?¢ Jetwash driveways and paths

â?¢ Basic fencing

Where possible gardening to be carried out using organic methods. This would entail the avoidance of use of herbicides, pesticides and fungicides. In addition, any garden food applied to be organic (e.g. liquid seaweed).

Person Qualifications and Specification

â?¢ Be able to provide good customer care

â?¢ Be qualified to NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture or RHS General Level 2

â?¢ Experienced gardener (Essential)

â?¢ Have a comprehensive plant knowledge, a keen interest in gardens and landscapes, familiarity with most gardening practices

â?¢ Competent in operating appropriate power tools where required, including lawn mowers, strimmers, hedge cutting equipment etc

â?¢ Excellent awareness of Health & Safety and implementing procedures

â?¢ Possess a full and clean UK Drivers Licence (Essential)

â?¢ Able to drive a medium size van/vehicle (Essential)

â?¢ Ability to work on their own initiative and as a member of a team

â?¢ Good verbal communication and organisational skills

â?¢ Be honest, reliable and dependable

â?¢ Well-motivated with an eye for detail and a desire to achieve a high standard

â?¢ Be flexible in approach

â?¢ Able to provide excellent customer service

â?¢ Understands the issues facing older people

â?¢ Able to demonstrate empathy when dealing with elderly and vulnerable people
