Non-exhaustive task list

  • Responsibility for meeting monthly targets on own projects.
  • On own larger projects delegate tasks to team and review progress and compliance with brief.
  • Attend weekly reviews with Associate. Report WIP, Invoicing, future fees and progress against targets.
  • Undertake fee proposals for additional and new work as appropriate, get support from team associate and ensure that all fees are approved by Director. Ensure that all fees are shown on Fee forecast schedule.
  • Ensure that current fee proposal is filed in Directors file and that all team members on the project are aware of and are shown the fee proposal.
  • Responsible for agreeing and delivering the scope of services for each project and report all non-compliance to the Associates at weekly meetings.
  • Review all design work against brief and Quality Assurance Standard.
  • Attend design team meetings as required.
  • Attend key presentations on the project as appropriate.
  • Be involved in the marketing of projects with regards to reporting ideas and suggestions on the suitability of project presentations and experience sheets.
  • Deliver bids as agreed with the Director and Associates.
  • Support interviews for authorised recruitment.
  • Demonstrate full understanding of the QA system on a project CAD level in addition to the wider company procedures and policy statements.
  • Be a qualified Chartered Landscape architect with Landscape Institute or similarly qualified with charter-ship status and have at least 7 years experience or demonstrate exceptional ability and commitment to the company.
  • Supervise scope of work, define recommendations and plans for landscape development.
  • Manage and monitor performance to programme of works for projects of and adherence accordingly. Manage no-conformity to programme of works with Contractor and sub-consultants.
  • Supervise projects in relation to assessing suitability of site plans, audit estimates, project specifications, schedules and contracts.
  • Provide technical advice to staff, consultants and project team members in relation to the suitability of landscape treatments, materials, plant choices selection,
  • Provide advice on and supervise project installation.
  • Contractual review and advise on selection of forms of contract and administration of compliance and conformity to the same.
  • Provide advice on, analyse and assess work done by landscape contractors and consultants. 
  • Lead a team of technical sub-consultants on projects.
  • Review, approve and sign off on technical aspects of projects and ensure consistency and accurate co-ordination and interfacing of plans with other consultants in signing off.
  • Supervision and auditing of the designs in terms of construction and engineering principles of above and below ground services including electrical, irrigation, drainage requirements and implications on a variety of project types.
  • Confident in negotiating with client, client representative, contract administrator, architect, project manager and understand hierarchical structure of the project and be able to identify the types of information appropriate for distribution to each separate entity.
  • Supervise and manage the writing of estimates, specifications and contracts.
  • Manage contract changes, instructions, changes in design, variations.
  • Manage and supervise others in assessing the due completion of works
  • Have sufficient experience to be able to manage and instruct and guide others within the company to achieve the highest standards in meetings and give presentations to third parties.
  • Guide, give advice and supervise with confidence the appropriate enquiries with specialists sufficient to be able to approach planning authorities to prepare planning applications, monitor compliance and supervise third parties who have a professional, technical, management or operational involvement on the project.
  • Provide advice to team members on CDM regulations and assist in general administrative duties.
  • Provide time estimates of works stages and deliverables for work schedules and programmes of works to be incorporated into staff resourcing timetables.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership of a team of 3-4 people on work projects.

Attributes

  • Masters in Landscape Architecture
  • 5-10 year relevant experience working in Landscape Architecture, ideally in private/public practice
  • Familiarity with design, tender and construction processes
  • Demonstrable track record in delivering/working on projects efficiently and effectively
  • Ability to produce technical drawings, details and specifications for both hard and soft landscaping
  • Have a technical understanding of plant selection, soil analysis, topography, drainage, hardscape installation as required to complete a landscape project
  • Have knowledge of Building Control regulations as they apply to landscape architecture and ensure projects are designed to be compliant
  • Have a thorough understanding of how the UK planning system applies to Landscape Architecture
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in leadership and ability to manage a small design team
  • Creative, self-motivated and well organised
  • Confident, with strong interpersonal skills
  • Proactive team player
  • Ability to take initiative in response to instruction by the associate pr director
  • Ability to work well under pressure and successfully meet deadlines on time and to the required standard
  • Understanding the hours required / available to spent on task and the financial aspects of running a design project on time and on budget
  • Assist senior staff with project forecasting and ensure that work is completed as allocated in order to ensure invoicing can be done on time
  • Act as Quality Controller in the management of Our clients projects and production of drawings ensuring that Quality Assurance standards are complied with on all tasks
  • Inspect and supervise landscape installation; review, analyse, assess, recommend / condemn work done by landscape contractors and consultants.
