Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Working across multiple landscape construction projects, the assistant quantity surveyor provides commercial expertise to maximise returns by working within robust procedures to support the Senior Quantity Surveyor and Project Managers.

The sucessful candidate will be accountantable to the Senior Quantity Surveyor (SQS) for the Landscape Construction Division.

Key Result Areas

  • Provision of clear, timely and accurate information
  • Ability to challenge resources and costs
  • Maintaining deadlines in line with monthly commercial calendar

 

 

Main Tasks

  • Preparation and updating of standard cost databases and profiles.
  • In accordance with the SQS assisting in the preparation of:
    • take-offs
    • supply chain procurement
    • producing, collating, and analysing enquiries to/from subcontractors
    • effective change control during the pre- and post-contract stages
    • financial reviews, cost value report and cash flow forecasts for internal and client purposes
    • bill of quantity/activity schedule for payment purposes agreement of final accounts
  • reviewing the cost information prepared by senior staff and identifying any errors for correction.

  • receiving and analysing quotations, liaising with Contracts Managers regarding price, proven history, availability etc.

 

  • Supporting senior members of the Construction Division in the day-to-day management and delivery of projects.
  • Ensuring deadlines are actively managed and progress is reported to managers as required.
  • Following the companys Quality Assurance process on all projects.
  • Ensuring standard documentation is used when presenting any external information.
  • Attending, contributing and minuting meetings (including on site locations where necessary)
  • Carrying out site visits/inspections
  • Producing and sending enquiries to subcontractors inviting them to tender and engagement with supply chain
  • Working across a number of different projects where applicable.
  • Acting in the best interests of the company at all times.
  • Any other administrative duties as deemed necessary by the SQS or Operations Manager.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Requirements & Qualifications

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Degree-qualified or equivalent or related construction subject, but with appropriate industry experience and knowledge
  • Good time management ability to prioritise and multi-task; punctuality; working efficiently and with a good idea of how long each task takes to complete
  • Quick to learn and technically able
  • Good commercial awareness and understanding of the construction process
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organisation skills
  • Problem solver - ability to identify and resolve issues with speed
  • Confidentiality able to maintain the confidentiality of the company, our clients and business associates
  • Relationship-building - effective stakeholder management, both internally and external to the organisation
