Senior Quantity Surveyor

As Senior Quantity Surveyor you will be responsible for successfully managing the full commercial life cycle of a portfolio of mixed use, leisure, commercial and private residential landscape projects, overseeing all financial aspects to ensure profit margins are protected whilst ensuring compliance with contractual requirements.

You will report into the Managing Director for the Landscape Construction Department and have a Junior QS to work with you.

 

Key Result Areas

  • Robust, accurate and timely cost and value reporting at both project and business unit level
  • Accurate monthly forecasting
  • Ability to challenge resources and costs
  • Maintain deadlines in line with commercial calendar

 

Main Tasks

  • Maintaining the company database / library to facilitate information and documentation tracking and look up in regard to rates, benchmarking, contracts, suppliers, etc.
  • Building and maintaining an in-depth knowledge of each pending and active project
  • Preparing estimates for time, cost, materials and labour
  • Producing costs and quotes for Site Instructions, Variations and tendering for new work including cost analyses, early stage budgets, detailed cost plans, Bills of Quantities and Procurement Plans
  • Cash flow forecasting across all contracts to project company turnover
  • Liaising with client representatives and other third parties on commercial issues including claims and any additional payments
  • Monitoring contract compliance against statutory requirements
  • Assisting in the control of supply chain ensuring full visibility of liabilities
  • Preparing weekly and monthly progress reports for each project
  • Working closely with the Construction Director to ensure any changes and potential cost overspends are identified as soon as practicable, ensuring costs are recovered and future overspends avoided wherever possible
  • Building and maintaining good relationships with clients, principal contractors and subcontractors
  • Managing a junior QS and overseeing their training and development

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Requirements & Qualifications

  • BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or experience equivalent
  • Demonstrable experience in commercial management in the built environment - landscaping projects experience would be advantageous
  • Strong interpersonal skills, both internally and client-facing
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong numerical and financial management skills
  • Organised - able to demonstrate sound methodical and organisational skills, combined with ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Results focused - focused on proactively delivering value that will directly lead to achievement of business results
  • Resilient comfortable working under pressure in a fast-paced environment whilst maintaining a positive can-do attitude
  • Teamworker cooperative and happy working in a small team with or without supervision
  • Customer focused - constantly striving for improvement to achieve the highest standards of service
  • Experience with CAD software/3D modelling would be advantageous.
