Maintenance Manager & Plant Buyer

Brief: Working for one of Londonâ??s leading landscape contractors, offers a complete garden service, managing the whole garden construction from the designerâ??s initial concept plan to the completion of the fully planted and landscaped garden. Once created, the companyâ??s maintenance division expertly maintains the prestigious gardens to ensure they always look their best.
We require a highly self-motivated person with good horticultural knowledge, capable of working on their own initiative and in collaboration with management at the office to maintain top-end gardens. This is a management role overseeing at least two teams made up of 2 operatives and is also partly a hands-on role which will involve driving from site to site and applicants must therefore have a full, clean driving licence.
This role will also be combined with the role of Plant Buyer, where you will be responsible for sourcing, pricing and ordering plants for designers.
Skills required:
â?¢ Excellent horticultural knowledge
â?¢ Ability to deal with clients professionally and diplomatically
â?¢ Ability to act pro-actively in ensuring all gardens stay well maintained
â?¢ Knowledge of irrigation systems and water features
â?¢ Confident driving skills, ideally with experience driving in London
â?¢ People management and programming of maintenance teams

Experience:
â?¢ Proven maintenance management record of high-quality gardens
â?¢ Track record of organising teams and liaising with clients and senior managers
â?¢ Proven excellent horticultural knowledge and experience in sourcing plants

Main duties:
â?¢ Overseeing 2/3 teams to carry out general garden maintenance, including mowing, pruning, mulching, tree and shrub planting and encouraging development of new plants as well as careful monitoring of watering and irrigation systems
â?¢ Liaising with clients/designers, dealing with all queries and snagging issues on maintenance sites
â?¢ Visiting each site regularly (once a month minimum) to ensure that all maintenance procedures are up to date and recorded
â?¢ Pro-active approach to deal with issues which arise on site, before the clients bring them to our attention
â?¢ Ability to up-sale maintenance through additional seasonal services
â?¢ Liaising with and updating the Director on all maintenance matters
â?¢ Keeping accurate records of daily works and corresponding costs, creating monthly invoices and issuing these to the clients by email and/or post
â?¢ Chasing clients for any unpaid invoices if not settled within a specified time
â?¢ Sourcing, pricing and ordering plants for designers, building up a good working relationship with the nurseries in the process in order to obtain favourable rates and priority on availability
â?¢ Liaising with designers when necessary in connection with plant sourcing requests
â?¢ Arranging plant deliveries, liaising with site foremen and the soft landscaping team
â?¢ Following set procedures on Health and Safety, working practices and reporting all issues to do with the well-being of the clientsâ?? gardens
â?¢ Enforcing strict H&S procedures and training where required
â?¢ Organising and arranging seasonal programme of works for ground operatives
